Sulphate Reducing Bacteria are generally obligatory anaerobic, flourish in oxygen depleted environments.They are hardy organisms as far as temperature and pH are concerned and tolerate temperatures as high as 800C and as low as -50C.  The pH range for their growth is 5 to 9.  They are salt loving and can thrive in conditions as high as 15% salinity.  They are extremely flexible organisms and can adapt to different temperature and pH conditions.

                      In metal industry the corrosion of iron by SRB is rapid and unlike ordinary rusting is not self-limiting.  Therefore, the metal tends to be pitted and not uniformly corroded.
                     The gas industry has always been troubled by the SRB for decades now.  Natural gas or producer gas when stored over water gets contaminated with Hydrogen Sulphide produced by the SRB.  This leads to severe corrosion of the pipelines, valves as also the gas jets. 
                      In Paper Industry SRBs not only cause damage to the finished paper but also create a major hazzle in the effluent disposal.  These menaces grow vigorously in pulp thereby ruining it by blackening.  This infected pulp in turn produces paper, which contains gray spots.
                      Injection waters are used to extract the remaining oil in exhausted walls.  This process of secondary recovery stimulates growth of all types of organisms including SRB.  These would diminish the yield of the oil. Metal Working Fluids eg. Cutting oils, lube oils, etc. are also highly susceptible to SRB attack as they are diluted with water.
SRB therefore as seen above exist in varied environments and play a vital role in the ecosystem and our economy.The best known economic disaster engineered by the SRB is of corrosion of underground iron and steel water and gas lines.

          
Thus our SRB Testing system (BS-115) helps in estimation of SRB within just 6 days.
The medium of BS-115 has been specially formulated  for the growth of the Sulphate utilizing species, viz. Desulfovibrio, Desulfotomaculum and Desulfobacter. It contains neutralizing compounds, which would nullify the effect of any inhibitor in the test sample.Hence instances of false positive (or False negative) results are greatly reduced. Conventional methods are generally riddled with many such uncertainties.BS-115 is designed to circumvent MOST uncertainties.
