As steam condenses back into water, it absorbs carbon dioxide, creating highly corrosive carbonic acid that violently grooves and pits the return piping. Replacing these lines is extremely disruptive. Operators inject the Food Grade Boiler Condensate Treatment Chemical (neutralizing amines) into the steam header to elevate the condensate pH and halt acid attacks.
